Sea Squirt caught and released in Puget Sound

Sea Squirts

The first time we brought up one of these bright orange creatures from beneath the sea was right after Halloween. I suspected this disgusting blob was someone’s slimy pumpkin that had been thrown overboard. On closer inspection, we realized it was alive!

We often catch bottom fish and learned that sea squirts often times hang out on the sea floor. There are 2,300 species of sea squirts worldwide. These are slimy, squishy little creatures. I was shocked to read that in Korea, these potato shaped sea animals are eaten raw and also cooked in a variety of methods. They say sea squirts taste like sweet sea water. Not something I am interested in trying! I’ll just take their word on this one.
