Orca whales in Puget Sound

Orca Whales

So far, the Orca whales (also called killer whales) we have observed are juveniles, who seem to be playing. I suspect the larger adults don’t venture into the shallower waters where we tend to travel. Even the young whales are fantastic to watch; they usually appear in a small pod.

We have found there are a few species of whales in the Puget Sound waters, but the Orcas are what we have spotted most often. They are also the most noticeable, with their distinctive black-and-white patterned bodies.
