clams caught on beaches around the Puget Sound

Clams

I love clamming in Washington state! You have the pleasure of visiting beautiful beaches,
sometimes lined with rocky terrain and always with expansive sandy beaches. There’s always a beautiful view, and you have a great excuse to dig in the sand! With every hole dug (well, almost every hole), you coax out a small handful of keepable clams. I’ve read and heard about the better flavors of different varieties of clams, but so far, I like them all. If you don’t eat all of the clam catch, you can freeze the leftovers and use as crab bait.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife sends out frequent email messages during the seasons, letting you know about great beaches and if/when they are open for clamming. So far I have only dug for the smaller, more plentiful clams in our area and have not wanted to work for the larger clams, such as goeducks and razor clams. Maybe one day!
